A book for Christmas…

Book

Written by Bérengère Treussard - Friday, November 28, 2014

Undoubtedly the highlight of the year 2014, the Maison Piaget finishes on a high note with the release of this beautiful book celebrating 140 years of creation and know-how.

The author of the book, Florence Müller, a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre in Paris, carried out some thorough research, certainly more than I did for my previous article about Piaget. With the help of the historical heritage department of Maison Piaget directed by Alain Borgeaud and Béatrice Vuille-Willemetz, she retraced the history of the brand, specialist of the ultra-thin watch.

The book is richly illustrated with stunning photos by Steve Hiett, a reknown fashion photographer who became famous in the 1970s for his unique flash technique. Also remarkable, the pictures of Philippe Garcia, who brings a singular look on still life photography and treats the jewel as if it were a sculpture.

A unique expedition behind the scenes of the Maison with the testimonies of Yves Piaget and the artisans who have worked with the motto “Always do better than necessary”.

A perfect coffee table book published by Éditions de la Martinière and a must have for all fans of Piaget and collectors of beautiful books. Available in all good bookstores.

Share your vision of perfection and excellence with the hashtag #PerfectionInLife, Piaget’s motto.

My vision of perfection looks like the 1998 Miss Protocole Watch… No, this is not a subliminal message for the festive season… The watch is no longer manufactured, what a pity! (clear message here).

Here are two other gift ideas for the end of the year, published by La Bibliothèque des Arts:

Bijoux en jeu is a book which compiles the contemporary jewellery collections of the Mudac and of the Swiss Confederation.

Les montres les plus chères du monde presents the most extravagant, decadent, desirable or fascinating timepieces.

Please share with me your own book suggestions for jewellery & watches. I already have a well stocked bookshelf, but I am always very curious to discover treasures in this field, and you certainly have a few to recommend. So, share!
