Baptisms and First Communions are around the corner – here is an alternative to buying a medal that involves recycling your gold jewelry… You may have old pieces you no longer wear because they are either broken or outdated? Instead of letting them sit in a drawer, how about giving them a second life while making a difference for the planet?

It is precisely around this goal that Arthus Bertrand and the GoodPlanet Foundation, both committed to sustainable development, have joined forced to launch an unprecedented campaign: “My Medal, My Planet”. This consists in recycling your gold jewelry to turn it into nature-themed medals and donating the proceeds to the GoodPlanet Foundation to support its field projects and education programs. Express your own personality while funding environmental programs with these original and timeless pieces, available in all Arthus Bertrand stores!

An unprecedented collaboration combining creation, sustainability and commitment

Established artisan medal-maker in 1803 in Paris, the Maison Arthus Bertrand crafts the most prestigious insignia and medals, including the Legion of Honor. This family business dedicates its savoir-faire to the creation of unique pieces inspired by our historical heritage – medals, chain bracelets and other pieces perfect for births, baptisms or First Communions! All pieces are made in France, in ethical and sustainable ways.

The GoodPlanet Foundation, created in 2005 by photographer and filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand, aims to “make sustainability, solidarity and humanism a central issue in order to encourage people to take concrete action for the Earth and its inhabitants”. With programs such as Action Carbone Solidaire, it supports agroecology, sustainable energy and waste recovery projects worldwide. It is also committed to raising awareness of environmental issues among the general public through the GoodPlanet School.

The cooperation between these two organizations around the My Medal, My Planet project offers the opportunity to give old jewelry pieces a second life and thus avoid extracting more gold from the Earth to create new ones. Proceeds are donated to the GoodPlanet Foundation to support its sustainable education programs and field projects, dedicated to biodiversity conservation, sustainable agroforestry and access to sustainable energy.

A beautiful medal made from your recycled jewelry, a sustainable action

So how do I participate and get my own gold medal?

All you need to do is collect your old jewelry pieces and bring them to an Arthus Bertrand store, where they will be weighed and sent over to the workshop. The size of the medal will be determined by the weight of gold brought in.

You will then have to choose among three symbolic themes designed by Artistic Director Camille Toupet: the sea turtle for Water, the pollinating bee for Air and the oak leaf for Earth. These elements symbolize the GoodPlanet Foundation’s three fields of operation.

Your medal will be made exclusively from the gold of your old jewelry and crafted and stamped according to ancestral savoir-faire in the Arthur Bertrand workshops in Saumur. It will then be engraved with the message of your choice and certified with a number.

Each gold medal costs €290, including €100 donated to the GoodPlanet Foundation.

A universal edition made with recycled silver

If you want to participate but don’t have any gold jewelry to recycle, we have good news! Arthus Bertrand is also offering a version of this medal made with 100% recycled silver and available for direct sale. Each medal is available in the same three symbolic designs as the gold medal and costs €90, including €40 donated to the GoodPlanet Foundation.

An eco-responsible approach giving us the opportunity to take real action for the planet AND get a beautiful medal… what more could we ask for? So, tell us, which design will you go for?
