Art Deco gold case in ivory, lacquer, enamel, and emeralds by Lacloche Frères with sculpture by Demetre Chiparus — circa 1925

« A Vanity Affair » is a love story and it tells the history of precious boxes reunited for a temporary exhibition at Christie’s Paris from the 11th to the 17th of September 2019.

To know everything about this exhibition, do not miss on the explanations by Violaine d’Astorg, responsible for the jewelry department at Christie’s auction house who welcomed us for a pre-visit.

A particularly rich collection that retraces the unique know-how of the grand houses of Place Vendôme such as Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels but also jewelers who today have disappeared or have been bought out by big corporations such as maison Langlois or the maison Lacloche for which a special exhibition will take place at the École des Arts Joailliers in Paris in October.

Peridot, turquoise and gold powder case by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co – circa 1956

A story around boxes and love, reunited by a couple of collectors for the past 10 years. They also usually placed love notes inside the boxes they gifted. This exhibition is also a testimony on the love they carried.

A book is to be published on this collection that I invite you to discover until the 17th of September at Christie’s Paris – 9 avenue Matignon.
