If there is a time of year when you can proclaim your love to someone dear, it is Christmas. And what better way to pamper a woman, and especially a cool girl, than with a beautifully crafted, precious and timeless watch that will stand by her through the great moments of her life? So, what are we waiting for?
Got an elegant friend? You can’t go wrong by choosing from the collections of the great fashion brands, namely Dior and Chanel. The house on rue Cambon has made a name for itself in the sometimes-sectarian world of watchmaking. It all began in 1987 with the birth of the Première, the brainchild of former Artistic Director Jacques Helleu. It single-handedly revolutionized the world of ladies' watches. And for good reason! By moving away from the traditional (and slightly soppy) mother-of-pearl and floral patterns, Chanel once again struck a blow. Since then, fashionistas have been snatching up the Première. A nod to the N°5 perfume cap, its octagonal shape is seductive. Other charming assets – its black lacquered dial and its bracelet, which uses the chain intertwined with leather from the legendary quilted bag. 35 years later, the icon has not aged one bit, and the brand is now launching a version that has been subtly revisited by Arnaud Chastaing, director of the Watchmaking design studio.
Also in the 1980s, Cartier seduced women with its Panther watch, whose bracelet suggests the way that the emblematic animal of the house moves. Smooth and supple… In 2022, these two iconic pieces are still a safe bet when it comes to pampering a woman.
To shine in the evening or to add a little something to a sober and sophisticated outfit, It Girls are ready to pull out the big guns, including a fine lady's watch, refined, preferably made of gold and diamonds. But beware: it can also come in a full steel version, with or without setting, or stand out with its case shape – octagonal for Audemars Piguet‘s Royal Oak or Herbelin‘s Octagon. Boucheron‘s Reflet watch, on which muse Alexa Chung has set her sights, is another example.
Halfway between a sparkling jewel and an object that gives the time, many pieces are designed to highlight the grace of a woman's wrist with a precious halo, while giving a festive look to the figure. Night owls will easily be won over by these sparkling timepieces. And there's something for everyone! Whether it's a touch of bling with just the right amount of flamboyance, neo-classical, graphic or sporty chic, a girl's watch can take on any style. Now you just need to decide which one best suits your personality or that of your loved one. If you’re not that bold, you might go for versatile and sporty chic models such as Rolex’s timepieces.
Purists will tend to hunt among the marvels of a prestigious brand such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin or Jaeger-LeCoultre, while collectors will gladly pick among the collections of more confidential brands such as Ebel or Citizen.
