As they shamelessly steal and adorn their man's jeans or shirt, fashionistas now set the tone by sporting iconic gentlemen's watches. In fact, after a decade of big watchcases, timepieces are slimming down and embracing a gender-neutral trend that is all the rage in fashion. A few 37 or 38 mm on which everyone can agree...
Gender equality in watchmaking? Bored of corny floral designs and mother-of-pearl dials, it-girls are flirting with more streamlined designs from men’s collections, as they’re more suited to the casual chic style of modern wardrobes. Women of character have actually been rocking Rolex watches for a long time now! The masculine dimensions of the case also present another advantage, they emphasize the delicacy of the feminine clasp. Whereas a trendy couple can easily share an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, elegant women will opt for a more traditional design such as the Master Ultra Thin by Jaeger-LeCoultre
Among collectors’ absolute favorites, from sport chic designs to timeless classics, we have selected the most glamorous pieces...
Created in 1963 to meet the needs of professional pilots, the legendary Daytona chronograph has continuously reinvented itself, and was even heightened with precious stones at times. The Oystersteel version is easy to wear on a daily basis, under a white shirt or a pair of jeans. However, it still shows off a technical mechanism with its self-winding mechanical Perpetual movement.
Available in an endless variety of materials and movements, and revamped in accordance with collaborations, the Classic Fusion has been seducing the public since 2008. The cases, whose proportions were imposing and slightly terrifying, are now available in 45, 42, 38 and 33 mm versions! Our favorite? The three-hand satin finish and polished titanium design, suitable for every occasion!
Designed in 1976 by Gérald Genta, the sport chic Patek Philippe watch is incredibly modern. Dubbed "Jumbo", it features an element of Genta’s signature style; the integrated bracelet. We also love the audacious bezel with chamfered edges and the horizontal line pattern on the dial. Among the many variations, fashionistas are going for the simplest design - in gold or steel - for a masculine-feminine style.
Another beauty by Gérald Genta, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was the first luxury sports watch designed... in steel! Groundbreaking at the time of its creation in 1972, this masterpiece has revolutionized modern watchmaking. Recognizable at first glance, by its octagonal case, the screws on its bezel and its "Tapestry" dial, it has been revamped hundreds of times. Although smaller versions are available for women, purists can't seem to resist the more traditional version in plain steel, with a blue-tinted dial, recently revisited in a diameter of 37 mm to compliment both men and women.
Of course, there is the mythical Reverso which we all want to collect. However, among the most particular pieces manufactured, the sleek design of the Master collection can easily be paired with a tuxedo or an evening dress for an elegant look. And the cherry on top: the Master Ultra Thin Date in pink gold, so perfect we can’t get enough of it. Revisited in a diameter of 39 mm, it contains the Jaeger-LeCoultre 899/1 caliber, which provides the date function, visible through a window at 6 o'clock on the eggshell colored dial.
Leading figure in the quest for the ultra-thin look, Piaget beat all records in 1957 with the 9P caliber. Among the designs which best illustrate this pursuit of fineness, the Altiplano focuses on neo-traditional lines. Among the most recent versions, the Altiplano is available in rose gold with a diameter of 38 mm, with a captivating blue sheen on its lacquered dial and rose gold index. Powered by an ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movement (the Piaget 430 P), it is limited to 300 pieces.
For sure, the Tonda collection is the most successful. However, we have a preference for the Toric, the very first watch designed by Michel Parmigiani, which have gained renewed interest with contemporary reinterpretations. Our absolute favorite? The Toric Chronometre and its 40.8 mm red gold case! Powered by the COSC-certified homemade PF441 caliber, it features a white grained dial that is simply divine!
A must-have for fine watch lovers since its 2012 launch, the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture can tell you what time it is in any country in the blink of an eye! This year, a new dial color is added - charcoal grey, which comes inside a rose gold or steel case. Its universal time function is easy to use and perfect for adventurers and working girls who spend their time on business trips.
To mark a unique look or assert an original personality, Swiss manufacturer Trilobe has revisited the way we tell time. They have replaced the hands with three rotating rings, the largest ring for hours, the median for minutes and the smallest for seconds. Our personal favorite? The Sunray Carmine from the "Matinaux" collection makes us beam with pleasure!
Are you on a tight budget? Riskers celebrates everyday heroes with their designs inspired from the trenches of World War I, with a more accessible price range. Their motto? "Design For Bravery". Our modern-day adventurers, urban warriors, won't resist the Chapter 2 limited edition series (1027 pieces) and its beige canvas bracelet. Inspired by the mountains, its sandy grey dial is heightened with an ice-blue polar star. It is powered by the Ronda 715 quartz movement, has a central second hand and a date window at 3 o'clock.
